There’s six of us, this is our story.

En el mismo barco [In the same boat] is about six youngsters who make a plan to change something about their reality, because there are things that bother and hurt them. At the same time, they confess their fears, dreams, wishes, and memories.
A group vulnerable to the difficult labor of agreeing; the humanity reflected in a small society of friends.
From a generational perspective, we explore the dynamics of a group of youngsters and contrast them with their political ideals and individual aspirations. This play arises from certain queries that have accompanied us since our previous montage and that have a direct relationship with our daily lives and with us as social beings.
How do we, human beings, organize as groups?
We aim to delve into the models that have imagined a fairer, happier world. This play seeks to follow upon what was explored in Asalto al agua transparente: starting from a specific situation that we currently suffer or enjoy as a society and attempting to find its whys, its
hows, its whos.
Our search begins in certain fundamental questions:

What is the theater of our generation? What are our convictions? What do we want to say? How are we going to say it? And where are we going to say it from?
The idea is to discover by ourselves how communication occurs. To not take anything for granted, to not believe what we were told at school.
Our goal is not to invent, but to reorganize. In our way.
We refuse to believe that one human being in front of another telling something is an obsolete medium.
Theater is a political phenomenon, as long as it explores the relationship between actor and viewer, stage and auditorium.
If we take the way in which we are going to relate for granted, we are skipping the first step.
We want to begin negotiations, not defend an inherited state of affairs, a crisis.

This project was built from group improvisations. We did long periods of rehearsals where we recorded very long improvisations. From there we brought forth the textual and scenic material. In a second version we included an adaptation of Les justes by Albert Camus, fragments in which we spoke with a “Russian accent”. The space suggested a house with a television and a kitchen. We also had a tent, which was a sort of bedroom.

En el mismo barco premiered in 2007 at Teatro La Capilla in Mexico City. It was later performed at Muestra Nacional de Teatro, in Zacatecas, 2008. A second version of the work was presented at Centro Nacional de las Artes in 2008. Other tours included performances in Tijuana, Tecate, Ensenada, Mexicali, and Hermosillo.
